Neal Moore Finishes Two-Year Solo Canoe Journey With a Pack Of New Friends

For most of us, one or two weeks would be considered a long adventure. For Neal Moore however, he stretched his canoe trip out to 22 months AND did it solo.

From my experience it takes a special kind of person to enjoy solo adventures. You can work up to it as I’ve outlined before in this article How to plan your own solo adventure but it’s not for everybody. What makes Neal’s adventure more amazing is the distance he travelled. He covered 7,500 miles and went from one side of the US to the other.

Ron “Canoe” Drummond - HISTORICAL BADASS

I spent many years living in a coastal town and surfing every week, all year round as well as a few months in San Diego and a month in Fiji. More recently I’ve spent a lot of time on the water with my canoeing adventures. With all that said, I just cannot see the connection between the two sports. To me, getting wiped out on a wave is all the stress I need and to think of adding a huge fibreglass canoe into the mix just makes my blood run cold. 

Ron “Canoe” Drummond however found a way to combine the two and make quite a name for himself along the way. Images of him racing down the face of mountains of water are nothing short of spectacular. A real pioneer in a sport that I think few will have the cojones to explore in these modern times.
